WYKO & NAEMS – Kali

May 28, 20202 min read

• Brutal drop, bouncy and tribal-influenced
• Simple but effective formula, considering the genre
• Enjoyable breakdown sequence

If you haven’t been living in a cave for some years and you are a fan of Big Room, I’m pretty sure that the names “WYKO” and “NAEMS” will sound familiar to you. These Revealed Radar veterans continue delivering high-quality music as they’ve been doing throughout the last two years. Maybe we should tell the Revealed guys that, after fifteen community releases in the case of NAEMS, they really deserve an opportunity on the main label. “Kali“, released on Nik Cooper, is a clear proof of the potential of these guys.

The break is not the most original thing you’ll hear in your life, but, hey, it’s well-produced and entertaining, which is already enough considering the actual standards of the genre. A typical ethnic female vocal does its job covering some space in the mix, while some tribal percussions are in the charge of carrying the vocal melody until the drop.

Here we have a good reminder for those who sometimes wonder why they like Big Room. “Kali” drop is pure madness, combining a common distorted lead with Wyko’s signature one, making this part of the song really dynamic. Good stories always deserve a happy ending, and I guess there’s not a better one than adding a trap section in the first bars of the last half of the sequence, a move that would make any crowd completely crazy when playing this live.

Sometimes you don’t need to reinvent a genre or be too creative to deliver a good product, and NAEMS and Wyko are masters demonstrating that again and again. They succeeded in their careers focusing on a genre that is criticized again and again because of its lack of personality, starting from zero and without any suspicious moves, which is a clear example of how you should work in order to achieve your goals ethically.
