Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman – Pacifier

April 13, 20202 min read

Minimal breakdown building up tension
Crazy, shape-shifting drop
Out-of-the-box concept that opens up some potentialities

After the glorious “ID8”, our beloved duo Dimitri Vangelis &‌ Wyman showed yet again their amazing production skills!‌ This round is “crazier” than the expected Progressive House, “Pacifier” isn’t really something that sets the listener calm! The duo, despite being focused on Progressive House, sometimes experiments with this groovy Electro House style (such as, in “Grizzly” with FTB), but this creation is something out of the usual standards

We clearly have a club demolishing weapon in front of us, listening to it during the quarantine isn’t perhaps the most suitable context, but rules are rules… Anyways, we are welcomed by a hard-hitting drop that utilizes a vicious kick and a brutal lead for displaying its capabilities. The melody is remarkably unpredictable, continuously changing patterns to increase the feeling of “craziness”, without being too noisy or chaotic. I’m obliged to tip my hat off for this job: these guys have a specialty in crafting melodies. Another nice detail is in the stabs: they reminded me of the legendary “Greyhound” from Swedish House Mafia, and they added an extra amount of energy.

The breakdown disregards from being ostentatious or complex, a structure that brings the listener towards the final drop, slowly building up some tension. Personally, I’m not a big fan of these minimal schematic, but it works pretty well, creating a mysterious vibe (using some well-chosen samples) and adding a lot of hype for the last and the remaining explosive sequence.

The idea has potential, in my opinion:‌ “Pacifier” has that sparkling essence, unpredictable and full of twists, that can be further explored by the duo. I find it extremely entertaining, especially effective in live exhibitions.

Thus, “Pacifier” is an embellished and athletic tune, one of the craziest releases ever from Dimitri Vangelis &‌ Wyman. The name is evidently ironic, because it must be handled with care, dear listeners!‌‌ Had a lot of fun listening and reviewing this one, I hope that it will be the same for you.
