Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman ft. Sem Vox – ID8

March 7, 20202 min read

• Epic chant that blends into the melody
• Signature progressive house schematic
• Structure perfectly built for optimizing the crescendo

When I saw the teaser for “ID8”, I thought that the video fits like a glove with the song. Some warriors in the brooding dark, with lightning in the background, ready to attack… “ID8” sounded very much like a war-movie soundtrack, thanks to its magical atmosphere and its peculiar elements!

The Swedish duo Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman teamed up with Sem Vox, another veteran of the genre, and delivered their first release for 2020. If the title seems off-kilter, you should know that DV&W always tend to give numerical epithets to their upcoming projects, and sometimes leave them as their only title, as happened with the legendary “ID2“.

Speaking about “ID8”, the detail that entranced me is that energetic and ethereal chant. The classic breakdown features an unmistakable and vibrant climax, additionally enriched by the mentioned chorus. The idea is absolutely amazing, in my opinion, it fills up the atmosphere without ruining the befitting arrangement. The trio worked around it, building a driving percussion system and a powerful low-end that smoothly brings the listener to the awaited drop, which is… Gorgeous, as expected!

It’s top-notch, quality progressive house, as the trio has made us hear over time! I felt some Sem Vox vibes in the melody, more unpredictable than usual, while the bassline has DV&W influences. Needless to add, the vocal fits like a piece of puzzle in there, especially in the final and imposing segment! It’s a melody that gets stuck into the head effortlessly, ready to be sung by the crowd in any festival!

“ID8”, all thanks to its elegant formulation, entertains with class and personality. Many similar tunes fails to develop their personality to a fuller extent, but for such an experienced triad, this is rarely an impeding issue. I doubt that a masterpiece like “ID2” can be compared with anything, but “ID8” is nothing short of a respectful successor.
