Back in the days when Trap became mainstream, thanks to enormous channels like Trap Nation, I wasn’t interested in the genre. I found it slow and unenjoyable like the “normal” festival house I was listening to. Tribal Trap and its releases changed my mind. An incredible number of artists in the roster release bangers after bangers, and I have reviewed them numerous times in the past.
Today I’m here trying to write something about the new Tribal Trap album, “Endemic II”, a collection of 18 new singles from new talents and veterans alike, from the label. Reviewing everything is impossible, but I gave a rating to all of them (as always, it’s entirely subjective), and I’ll describe my top 5. I must add that the compilation quality level is rather high, and the songs that didn’t impress me were mainly because of a standard structure or a concept that didn’t convince me. Amongst 18 songs, none of them was a flop, in my opinion.
My 5th pick is “Maad Loud” by Cryjaxx and TH3 DARP.
It’s a unique tune, with a strange system of rapid vocal cuts, that might sound dispersive to many listeners, but, for me, adds a certain unpredictable vibe that I loved. The reggaeish vocal and the rich chords complete the structure. A track with a giant personality, maybe slightly too ambitious for my tastes but a great record nonetheless.
4th choice? “Tulum” by Tenka.
The relaxing and peaceful mood of the song caught my attention. It presents some Asian vibes that I highly appreciated, which was interrupted by a brutal flute (which is its the point of strength) in the drop — another extremely original tune.
The bronze medal goes to “No Way Out”.
Drama B danced over a supreme beat by THROVN, in a classic hyperaggressive trap composition. My ears are still rattling because of that bass. Not particularly creative, but excellent quality.
I’ll give the second spot to “Feel It” by WCKD and Alex Byrne.
My “big room lover” side instantly got in love with the dynamism of the drop, clearly influenced by festival EDM. The collaboration is rapid and bouncy – a real earthquake of energy. Destructive.
My personal favorite, in the end, is “Broken Heart” by 2nd Life, Stephen Geisler, and Leni.
A simply perfect drop supports a stunning vocal. I loved how the elegant strings get fused with a hypnotic vocal structure, in particular. The trio made a song that gave me goosebumps, everything fits so well together, in a concentrate of elegance and powerful vibes, with a pinch of melancholy. Two excellent vocal performances complete the 90+ production.
These were my top 5! Congratulations to all the artists involved, “Endemic II” is an excellent compilation. I am looking forward to the 3rd Volume.
