• Hypnotic and linear sequence
• Mysterious and exotic atmosphere
• Creative approach to trap music
You know that feeling when a movie trailer or a TV show catches your attention, but you have to wait a frustrating amount of time before viewing the rest? My experience with “Mindwarp”, an exciting experiment by Killro, has been similar.
I heard this tune exactly 61 days ago, and ever since I had conceived the idea about reviewing it. It’s imaginative, mysterious, and has impressive dynamism coupled with a particular approach. Every draining moment of the two-month-long wait was worth it because finally, I can present to you one of the freshest tunes I’ve heard in a while.
The release date of “Mindwarp” was delayed because it is included in a 4-track EP, “Awakening“. Concisely, this selection features a dark and brutal dubstep experiment – “Go“, a curious track – “Coming For You” (which impressed me owing to the minimalism of the drop!) and “Need You“, which features a similar approach to “Mindwarp”, but more delicately.
In the end, “Mindwarp” remains my favorite. It has a hypnotic glitchy structure, where a pirouetting synth performs transcendently. The melody composed of frantic sequences slightly reminded me of some Marshmello songs, like “Alone“, but Killro put his best foot forward at maintaining his sound. I can’t objectively compare Krillo with other artists here: this genre is one of its kind. The atmosphere is then further enriched by an ethereal vocal, a swift Dubstep/DnB add-on to spice up the atmosphere, and a linear, progressive amelioration of the structure. There isn’t a drop, but a slow sequence, where various combinations of the already described elements take turns accompanying the protagonist of the track – the twirly lead.
Well honestly, I couldn’t wait to present you this gem. Killro surprised me, and even though he’s making ‘non-mainstream’ music, I’m sure that many of you will find “Mindwarp” and the “Awakening” EP exciting. There is radical talent; there is a unique concept, and there is pure passion.
