Matisse & Sadko – Another Side (feat. Wrabel)

May 1, 20192 min read

• Outstanding vocal performance by Wrabel
• Robert Falcon?
• Typical Matisse & Sadko structure

Coming from the cold lands of Russia, we have a brand new emotional tune crafted by no other than Matisse & Sadko and… eeehh… Well, this is embarrassing, but the title says that Robert Falcon worked on it, apparently. Hardstyle, Big Room, Future Bass, Bass House, Future House… Such a versatile artist!

Let’s be serious and speak about music: “Another Side” starts with a typical progressive instrumentation, featuring guitars, airy synths, snaps and some more standard sounds, nothing too special or impressive in my opinion. Luckily, Wrabel’s charming voice improves this part a lot, being for sure the best element of all the track. Many EDM fans surely remember him from “Ten Feet Tall” with Afrojack: his voice has something magical!

After a Matisse & Sadko’s signature build up with their classical reverbed guitar and some punchy snares, we finally reach the drop. Some people would think that if something works it’s not necessary to change it, but I must admit that I disagree with that. I’m a bit (maybe really) tired of listening to the same lead again and again. Yes, of course, it sounds huge and emotional, but I would like to hear something different from these talented guys from time to time. M&S are two of the best progressive house artists around, they should dare more in their productions.

I think it’s time to ask ourselves a difficult question: is it better to maintain always a signature sound or to try to explore new genres and different musical approaches? Each one can have its own opinion, but I always appreciate originality, which is something that today’s track is missing. Enjoyable, but without that unique personality I was looking for.
