Headhunterz Just Dropped a Diss Track!

December 5, 20182 min read

Five days ago, Headhunterz released a new song! Unexpectedly, “Say My Name” is a diss towards Angerfist and Radical Redemption, two other biggies of the hardstyle world. It probably is, from what we know, the first diss EVER in that particular scene. It’s weird because the hardstyle community is notoriously more sentimentally connected than the artists of the other genres.

First, we’ll skim through some backstory. Headhunterz launched his slogan “Vote Hardstyle!” during the last DJ Mag poll, encouraging fans to vote for him and the other artists of the genre. Angerfist and RR purposefully refused to congratulate with him, ignoring Heady after the results were announced. The Dutch producer complained about this behaviour in his Insta Stories. Quite evidently, a part of the hardstyle community didn’t like his big room period.

Anyway, “Say My Name” is that. A monotone loop going “Say my name, just say my name” a minimal breakdown, a brutal anticlimax, and a more melodic second drop. We appreciate the reference to RR (“If you are looking for perfection and your ears hear redemption“) and Angerfist (“The scene was hoping for a banger, but all they see is your anger“). Lovely choice. It’s a simple structure, not a song by itself but, in fact, a critic and a complaint against two artists that disrespected Headhunterz. He used the most potent way he has: music. We didn’t pick a side yet, we are curious to see the reply from the nominated producers before, but be free to voice your opinion, like always. The continuous request of “not ignore him”, being honest, gives a “needy” aftertaste to the diss track, but we can keep an eye closed at the moment. Headhunterz said that there is more behind “Say My Name”.

The song is what it is, generally during a diss the most important thing is the lyrics, but this is a new territory for the EDM world, so we are yet to see if the duo will have a response.

Grab your popcorn guys!
