77/100
• Relaxing and solemn breakdown
• Magnetic vocal by Devon Graves
• Surprising funky drop
The keyword of today is RELAXATION.
Cloud 41, with the help of the singer Devon Graves, managed to create that relaxing mood we were looking for, ideally. Their new single called “Letting Go” luxuriated us like a warm sheet during a cold, winter evening.
This musical EDM production, slightly pop-oriented but still with an impressive amount of creativity and personality, definitely needed a good review. Cloud 41 is a young project, but he has lots of experience, having worked with Marshmello, Carnage and The Chainsmokers in the past, to name a few. His style is mainly characterized by a dynamic yet elegant breakdown, sporadic in those kinds of productions. We were almost expecting a progressive house drop.
The piano, accompanied by a stunning performance by Devon Graves (excellent lyrics and magnetic voice), an elegant bassline and an unexpectedly dynamic system of percussions, makes that section lovely and enjoyable. It’s merely “beautiful,” there isn’t a better word to describe it, especially when a melancholic violin gets briefly introduced in the second part.
The drop doesn’t last for long, and we are happy about it. We were welcomed by a surprising instant of happy vibes, created by an elegant sax and a funky bass — another beautiful section, connected with the more relaxing breakdown by an active buildup phase.
Well, Cloud 41 produced a little gem. This is what we call “commercial EDM,” the kind of electronic music radio-friendly with slight poppish vibes, a genre we rarely appreciate. However, the happy vibes and the surprises contained in “Letting Go” convinced us to give it a shoutout. Approved. That’s a song that doesn’t deserve to pass unnoticed.
