Wiwek & Foreign Beggars – Choose Your Poison

• Fusing hip-hop and jungle terror is a good idea
• Delightfully frenetic
• Chapeau to the Foreign Beggars performance

After a month of Maha Vana, we are starting to become more convinced about the newborn Wiwek label! Its third release, “Choose Your Poison”, is a smashing hybrid between rap, trap and Wiwek signature tribal sounds.

Without disrespecting Foreign Beggars (gorgeous performance), we would like to see Wiwek working with other hip-hop artists. Fusing his signature style with a genre that usually uses slower BPMs is a difficult but interesting idea!

“Choose Your Poison” is, summarized in a single word, frenetic. Trust us, it’s so frenetic that it almost gave us anxiety during the first listening. Foreign Beggars’ vocal is fast, aggressive, perfectly connected with a brutal base. Speaking about it, it presents classic Wiwek vocal loops accompanied by a minimalistic structure, with brief pauses without an actual instrumental. Intelligent choice, because with just a couple of vocal samples, a slight bassline and few fills the Dutch genius made a creative base, with no static or boring moments. Every element appairs when needed.

Then, we have the drop. It’s a bit exaggerated for this kind of production, but nonetheless, we liked its brutality. A devastating lead accompanies this brief section, paradoxically more static than the breakdown because of the absence of the vocal. Attention: static doesn’t mean weak! It just has a slightly slower rhythm, while the heavy bass and the infernal metallic lead make their destructive jobs.

“Choose Your Poison” is almost 3 minutes long, but time flew when listening to it. Its fast rhythm and explosive dynamism make it a raw banger for clubs. We are enthusiastic about this vocal choice, and we are proud to see Wiwek bringing his already legendary style on another level. Perfectly successful experiment.
