I know that some people won’t be happy to see that I’m reviewing a song by them, but The Chainsmokers pleasantly impressed me. Their new EP is enjoyable and deeper than expected, including a dark trap collab with NGHTMRE that we reviewed a couple of weeks ago.

Today it’s time to introduce a more “classic” tune of the album… “This Feeling”. Before writing that it’s “pop”, I stop you: it is. However, I liked its chilly mood and the lyrics, and on this tiring Thursday, I bring you my thoughts about it.

I really don’t have anything against the American duo: they’ve released many pop hits, but they always showed respect to their more aggressive roots, especially during live sets. I must be honest: I don’t listen to their actual music a lot, but that is precisely why I’m reviewing “This Feeling”. My expectations were low, and I’m happy to see that I was wrong.

The break consists of a chilly guitar base. Nothing particularly special, we saw this structure many times, but this time around it there was something that relaxed me. Andrew Taggart’s voice fits particularly well there and plays around together with Kelsea Ballerini’s. Nothing to add about the lyrics: I felt they were full of meanings. They are two excellent vocalists, capable to share their inner feelings in a couple of minutes, there is no doubt about it. I was hoping for a base with more personality, but this one already works well.

The drop is what amazed me. Again, it’s not very creative but presents a sweet touch that delighted me. The vocal chops are delicate, elegant, hypnotic… It’s a rare case, I liked them! It doesn’t last long, it’s just a quick transition between the two vocal sections… A detail that I found interesting.

The Chainsmokers made a good EP, and “This Feeling” deserved a mention. I rarely like pop music, however, its mood is somehow special to me. You should listen to it if you are looking for something simple to relax with.
