• Powerful creation, a good tune for clubs and festivals
• Generic structure that doesn’t show the best of both talented artists
• Neither a top or a flop. Normal release

A missed chance.
“Switch” (for us, of course) could have been something more than the big room track released by Blasterjaxx and Bassjackers yesterday. The two duos (extremely important in the EDM scene) teamed up and delivered this brand new Maxximize release.

First of all, let’s briefly describe the Dutch producers involved. Blasterjaxx are releasing bangers after bangers: after “Phoenix“, “1 Second” and “Rio“, their 2018 seems completely big room-oriented… While Bassjackers tried a future house approach with “Are You Randy?” (feat Bali Bandits) after an aggressive collab with L3N called “Ready“.

Those two names are, as said, very popular for big room fans, thanks to an impressive number of important hits. We were expecting something capable to show how much talent is grouped here. We got partially satisfied with “Switch”.

Don’t take us wrong, the drop will perfectly smash your summer parties, but there isn’t anything new. Classic Blasterjaxx kick and structure, a lead with a hybrid between the two styles, a Bassjackers-style breakdown. Nothing else. For loyal fans of the group, like us, “Switch” will seem familiar. It well balances the two styles, it’s enjoyable, but a bit generic, especially if you know the past releases.

We would have preferred some more experimentations, for example in the drop. The 4 producer tried the most predictable formula around: heavy kick, distorted bassline, lots of reverb and (extremely) classic big room melody. This works, don’t forget that, but it’s like having Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi teaming up for a soccer match and putting them in the defence section.

We must admit that “Switch” would work well in clubs, but here, on our headphones, sounds like a missed chance of bringing up something more interesting.
