• An impressive selection of famous names together
• Long-awaited comeback of Deorro & MAKJ
• Unexpected fresh and wild psy-trance

With those names, “Shakalaka” makes a “smashing” entry in 2018, a year full of surprises… And comebacks.

Exactly, today we have the long-awaited return of the duplet Deorro-MAKJ. The American stars made two lovely collabs a few years ago (“Ante Up” and the massive “READY!”) and fans were hoping for another round… We have it, but, surprise! It’s psy-trance.
Various Bounce producers seem to handle this new & popular trend in an interesting way.

Ah, wait, there is more. Surprise –again– there are Steve Aoki and Max Styler in this huge collaboration! Steve Aoki is not a totally unexpected name (he already worked with Deorro in “Freaks”), but Max Styler… Being mainly a trap/chill producer, he seems like a fish out of water here. With a courageous guess (because we had difficulties in separating the different styles in such a particular production), we think that the American talent worked on the vocal part. The loops in the drop seem similar to some of his works, like the “Congratulations” flip.

Anyway, speaking about the song and not the authors, “Shakalaka” does its job in a good way! We were expecting something more, seeing the names involved, but, talking in a musical way, we are not disappointed. The four artists created a tune with a super catchy vocal (perfect for a psy-trance base, without using a predictable exotic chorus), and an energetic drop. Deorro’s influence stands out because of the lead, as expected. His style has always been unique and dominant, but MAKJ, Max Styler, and Steve Aoki worked in the right way on the various elements. The result is a collab that will impress fans more because of the quality of the artists rather than its structure (being honest, it’s nothing new for us).

Anyway, huge hits like “Shakalaka” doesn’t pop out every day. The result is positive for us, it’s an enjoyable song!
