Thanks to Samorz Sounds for the help with this review
Yeah, Junkie Kid has finally found himself with one of the most promising albums of this splendid year. Together with names like Headhunterz, Steve Angello or The Glitch Mob, there is his splendid collection of 16 tracks…
The highest risk, in this case, was to release a static album, with predictable formulas or a commercial one (highly unlikely since we are speaking about hard dance here). The Mexican talent, one of the most eminent in his genre, literally pulled out from his hat, a bunch of surprises, panning from techno to melodic hardstyle, chilling moments and obviously classic hard house bangers.
“Find Yourself” is, from our point of view, the most courageous album of the current year, an intriguing selection of different shades of Junkie Kid’s unique style. It tries to bring more fans to explore an incredibly underrated genre – ‘Hard house’, thanks to Junkie Kid’s notorious versatility. Every song is different, with various surprises and unexpected experiments. Needless to add that Junkie Kid kept a coherent amount of dark vibes in the album. This is totally a work made with passion, a lot of intelligence and a desire to experiment.
A random fan needs to discover each of the 16 productions to fully enjoy “Find Yourself”. Like a salesman with a huge catalogue of articles for various types of customers, Junkie Kid presented himself in the best way possible, considering his particular genre. Techno, Trap, Melodic trap, Hardstyle, Hard Dance, Hard trap, Electro house… Collaborations with promising names like ANG, Calixto, 91x, Starx… There is enough stuff for everyone!
Making a long review was impossible, because every song speaks for itself. Unique, interesting, and captivating. What a collection…
Here are our top 5 selects, from Samorz Sounds’ point of view, not in order, because comparing so many different genres is an impossible task. Different emotions are to be considered.
Welcome to one of the most surprising albums of 2018!
Junkie Kid – Pyramid (feat. 91x)
This is one of the songs of the album that has impressed me for good. I’ve been following Junkie Kid career since 2014 and I never imagined that one day he would make a Techno song. “Pyramid” has a personality that I admire, a mysterious mood mixed with the familiar signature sound of the producer together with something completely new. The dark environment accompanied by a massive kick (pure Junkie Kid style) make this song great, even for non-techno lovers!
Junkie Kid – Dawn (feat. Square², Starx & Nitro Fun)
Junkie Kid with the help of Square, Starx & Nitro Fun surprised us with this relaxing, but at the same time, energetic collaboration. Downtempo & Drum & bass are the genres that dominate this cool production, an experiment that amazed me. Futuristic and emotional, with an excellent selection of samples. The sounds used for both the drop & the break remind me of the sound of a gaming machine. Interesting collab, one of the most unexpected surprises of “Find Yourself”.
Junkie Kid – Tomorrow (feat. Calixto, BENJAMINDJ & 3ddie)
One of the best songs of the album in my opinion. I’m totally shocked by this song, the dynamism and the energy that it emanates in both the drops are insane! And the funny vocal used for the break imparts a special atmosphere and good vibes to it! The first drop is simply colossal, an explosive and brutal hard house bomb… But “Tomorrow” has also a surprise in the second part: a happy hardcore drop! Totally unexpected!
Junkie Kid – Choose Your Style (feat. Calixto)
Junkie Kid always has something to surprise us with all his releases. He has the capacity to create a different kind of aggressive production and this is a clear example of what I mean. “Choose Your Style” starts in a relaxing manner but slowly becomes more intense by the drop. The incredible change of mood between breaks and the badass drops is another huge surprise the album. I loved how I felt both peaceful and euphoric during the three minutes of this gem.
Junkie Kid – Two Clips (feat. Fasko & Bagha)
The vocals in this cool break are really catchy! A distorted voice adds a spicy touch to a wild and aggressive base, a perfect combination! And what I can say about the drop? I love the idea used in the drop, it seemed like it was an emergency alarm which suits because the track is absolute carnage! Hardpsy at its finest!
