Neptunica – Numb

The German duo Neptunica delighted us today with “Numb”, a poppish tropical house song with future house influences.

We have previously been impressed by Måx & Nîck… Their hit “Poseidon” has gained 7 millions of plays (and 9 millions of views), and we recommend checking it out if you really want to discover their unique style. Poppish future bass is a territory full of generic and boring music, but Neptunica is able to move there with class and creativity. In particular, we love how they create interesting and complex vocal chops, and the elegant lightweight structure of their music.

Those characteristics are present in “Numb” as well, in addition to a fantastic vocal! With a melancholy yet catchy work, the singer really conquered our cold hearts with a heatwave of class. In the buildup Neptunica added a super catchy system of drums, preparing us for the hypnotic drop. A careful listen can notice a flute that appears during some moments: an extremely efficient and fresh detail!

The drop presents the Neptunica charm, with a melody that is a pure candy for the ears but lacks a bit of creativity. That’s the main weakness of “Numb” for us: a drop that manages to be interesting but doesn’t really stand out in terms of personality and originality. We must add that the combination vocal + perfectly edited vocal chopped lead is quite amazing but knowing Neptunica’s standards, this could have been better, maybe with the flute used in the break.

Anyway, “Numb” is still a fantastic summer song. We are pretty sure that Neptunica will amaze fans in the coming months with this new release, obviously radio-oriented but with an impressive catchiness!
