During these latest months, we kept underlining the excellent quality of Corey James’s releases on SIZE (Steve Angello’s label). Releases like the beautiful “Back In Time” and “Arlanda” or the tribal “Funky Music” with Teamworx has been heavily appreciated by fans and by us reviewers… In fact, today we have another song in the list.
Our mistake is simple: we usually underestimate SIZE. Being few releases there, forgetting to check their socials for new music is easy. That’s why we are going to review “12 O’Clock” with almost a week of delay. Thanks to our fan Arthur for suggesting this awesome electro production to us, anyway!
In few words, “12 O’Clock” impresses for its explosive vibes. The huge collaboration between the English talent and the two Spanish producers Crusy and Jose De Mara mixes perfectly the three styles together. “12 O’Clock” is complex, full of surprises and different mindsets together. We hear Corey’s groove, Mediterranean drums, a magnificent musical structure and a danceability that it’s a little surprise to hear on SIZE. In our humble opinion, “12 O’Clock” is more a FONK release (Dannic’s label), because of its wildness and bouncing mood. More dance than usual, almost “summer style”: it’s a song that makes you jump with its tribal and hypnotic rhythm. Obviously, seeing it in SIZE is a good news: nice to see that Angello’s label is bringing new vibes in the catalogue.
After a brief buildup, where a vocoded vocal brings up a lot of hype, the drop begins to smash ears. Its melody is a simple loop, but the combination of drums, the catchy loop and the aggressive bassline makes the part perfect for a festival.
Dynamic, lightweight, and hyperaggressive… A superior result!
Then some SIZE oldschool vibes are present in the brutal break: a violent combination of uprising chords, that already described catchy vocal and a genial game of pauses in the second half makes that section unforgettable. Here’s where SIZE’s real nature comes out: that break is intelligent, full of class but also of brutal energy. A wild beast, ready to explode in the second drop!
In the end, “12 O’Clock” left me tired. It’s such an energetic song, that when I stopped listening to it in loop while writing down its review I felt almost exhausted. An excellent mix of electro house, groove and tribal EDM. Approved.
