The title of this song shouldn’t create problems in explaining its genre. “This Is House” is, for real, a great house song by the Colombian producer Moska, released on Musical Freedom.

Before exploring this underground rarity, let’s talk about the artist. Moska is one of the most underrated producers around. Despite collaborations with Laidback Luke, Major Lazer and Tiësto and a large number of major releases, he hasn’t quite received the fame he deserves. His style is very flexible, varying from progressive house, to electro house, to tribal. Last year Moska experimented with a sort of tribal-minimal house approach.

Good attention to drums and vocal cuts, frenetic atmosphere, old school vibes with some fresh personality. This seems to be the 2017-18 Moska approach.

This brings us to “This Is House”. The song is a clear tribute to the good old times, a vintage production with some interesting add-ons. The vocal is a typical loop, repeating the title. Luckily, Moska knows how to work on vocals, making it dynamic, interesting, and with a ton of personality. It’s easy to recognize the vocal modulations in the drop, where the loop is used as a lead. This may seem simple, but it’s not at all so. It’s a work of experience and great skills, Moska must’ve worked hard on it!

The final effect is an enjoyable vocal structure that fits smoothly with the deep bassline of “This Is House”. The minimalistic melody is supported by the bassline, giving a bouncy effect to the drop.

It is a simple scheme, for a casual listener, but Moska focused on every minor detail, delivering a rare piece of house to the scene. Difficult to appreciate to its true beauty, but definitely a sublime release by MF!
