With all gusto and clout, Fonk Recordings has concluded this year of dynamic and swanky groove house tunes, with a chChristmashemed EP.
Consisting of energetic and aggressive tunes from LoaX, Dirty Ducks, David Stellar and the Label boss Dannic himself, the EP definitely lives up to what I expected. Nice idea, important names, the “Christmas EP” is definitively one of the fresher selection of the winter!
So here is our concise review of the five productions included in the EP!
1. Dannic & Pessto – All The Things
Rating – 81/100
The Serbian talent Pessto teamed up with the Fonk owner, Dannic, to provide a classic funky groove house track. The track starts with a vocal shot, slowly escalating. After a few seconds, the steady riser comes in, and with a huge sweep riser, the kinetic drop comes in. The drop consists of typical Dannic grooves drop synths, but nonetheless spry and moving.
The next breakdown keeps a steady pace, keeping the rhythm from drop underneath while the front elements are focused on providing a melodical and atmospheric. Piano, synths, Arp, vocal chops; the breakdown is equipped with the essential elements to keep it catchy and vivid.
In overall, “All The Things” totally impressed me with its peppy breakdown and the signature Dannic groove sound did its magic.
2. LoaX – Fuego
83/100
The Swedish hotshot LoaX has already made quite the impact in the scene. With his unique intense drops and admirable breakdowns, he keeps a superb dynamics in his productions. Same can be said for this particular release, named Fuego.
Initiating with a hulking electro — acidic arp in the intro, it robustly advances towards the drop. The riser comes in slowly, building up the tension. The vigorous drop enters in with a perfect impact.
The drop brings in waves of energy with signature LoaX’s dirty lead, paired with another electro groove house synth. The combination is fantastic and creative at the same time. The breakdown features percussion creating a certain pace, at the same time a mildly screeching lead plays out a melody. It continues for few more seconds till the second drop hits in.
Conclusion: Fuego definitely is a favourite of mine from this EP. Splendid work from LoaX again.
3. Dirty Ducks & Notalike – Possession
81/100
Italian duos Dirty Ducks and Notalike add more fuel to the fire in the EP with another dirty aggressive electro production, titled “Possession”.
The track mainly revolves around the sturdy and nifty drop. The intro, brief, slowly evolves and delivers the drop.
The breakdown keeps a classical electro house style, with an overpowering saw synths in the latter half of it. Melodic and vivid, without compensation catchiness.
In a nutshell, superb release in the EP. It fires up a lot of stamina. Classic Italian groovy vibes, and definitively and interesting second release by Notalike (ex RagerZ)!
4. David Stellar x Bwess – Bring The House Down
80\100
This production brings back the classical groove style, unadulterated. However, to keep freshness, different elements have been used to make more dynamism.
The intro starts in a simple and clean way, swirling up to the riser, leading up to the massive groove house drop.
The drop brings in rapid groove house synths, while also keeping bass house effects to keep it precise and lively.
The breakdown after it very much reminded me of Hardwell – Universe, however, if we ignore this context, the breakdown actually manages to score well alongside the drop. David Stellar brought in an efficient way his signature style, creating a drop which is aggressive, but extremely clean!
In short, satisfying work from the David Stellar and Bwess.
5. Morgan J & Boothed ft. Max Landry – On The Floor
78\100
“On The Floor” is another festival tune in the Fonk Christmas EP. Even though it uses a general groove drop format, the overall track has interesting elements to keep the kinetics.
Kicking off with a basic intro, the intro steps up to the zippy groove drop. The drop takes over with its swift electro synths (which is used generally in many groove house tracks). Nonetheless, it does the job.
The breakdown introduces the subtle vocal of Max Landry, making the track more animated and snazzy. The breakdown advances towards the drop, and the vocal cuts out to the swinging drop.
That was the sum up of EP from Fonk, which I found fantastic. Pure Fonk’s vibes everywhere, with a lot of talented producers inside. Recommended to every electro house lover out there.
