“Freaks” has been a milestone in the Melbourne Bounce story. The Australian legend Timmy Trumpet, with that tune, brought to the scene his crazy personality and his characteristic trumpet sound.
Now, after 3 years, the genial artist returned with a follow-up, again with the New Zealand MC Savage. Well, “follow-up” may not be the right word. “Deja-Vu” is a more suitable word for describing this unique idea.
The reason why we give the highest rating ever assigned this year to “Deja-Vu” is that Timmy Trumpet LITERALLY brought a revolutionary concept to the “follow-up” term. “Deja-Vu” manages perfectly to give a sensation of “hey, this sounds familiar”, while being an actually creative and different tune.
The bouncy and catchy drop is different from the “Freaks” one… But with a superlative structure that contains the same fills, some shots of the “Freaks” lead, and the majestic Savage vocal, the magic happens. It’s hard to explain with words, just as the “Deja-Vu” term itself.
Shout out to the MC too, it’s not easy to rap over such a particular base! He made a perfect work, adding the right pinch of aggressiveness that was missing.
In few words, what’s so special in “Deja-Vu”? The song is already splendid by itself, but the unreal attention to details and the UNIQUE system of recycling some “Freaks” elements using another point of view is revolutionary.
Timmy Trumpet once again shows to think outside the box, delivering a song that has the potential to become, as its older brother, another milestone of the Bounce scene.
The icing on the cake is the music video, with some Doom references and even some scenes recycled from the “Oracle” music preview. Another example of this unique idea: selecting old elements, and add them in a way that makes you think “that’s familiar” instead “that’s a copy”. This is not hard, this is beneath impossible.
But this amazing artist made it.
