Afrojack just dropped an unusual and unexpected remix of “Encore” by Mercer, with SAYMYNAME. The song, released in 2015, received the remix only now, and this is not the only curious aspect of this Musical Freedom release!
Apart from the fact that the artists involved are part of other labels and that Afrojack has been credited as “DJAfrojack” instead, the style may seriously surprise you.
For anyone who doesn’t know SAYMYNAME, he’s a unique producer. His hard trap music is hyperaggressive and frenetic, you can immediately notice his signature distorted screeching lead. Afrojack style is not completely different, but he clearly dominated and influenced the “Encore” remix.
“Encore” starts with a calm and laidback style, slowly gathering energy and momentum with trap beats getting slowly escalating towards the fierce drop. Also without compromising the original catchy melody, which plays out in the backdrop, the breakdown quickly changes to the brief riser, giving away to the fast-paced and aggressive drop.
The drop impacts with huge energy, with characteristic screeching distorted synths, accompanied with 4 x 4 kick groove for the first part of the drop, quickly changing to more trap pace in the second part. The main breakdown introduces the harmonic melody with the lovely vocal chops, with a rising squarish saw pluck acting as a perfect riser, leading up to the brief saw part and finally transitioning to the riser to let the vigorous drop hit back again.
The remix will be a festival banger for sure, and SAYMYNAME will get more recognition! In addition, this may be a sign that Afrojack wants to experiment hard trap in the future! Let’s wait and see what this “Encore” remix will represent…
