Club Life vol.5: China: 3 Artists, 1 Masterpiece.

November 4, 20176 min read

Tiësto is back with the fifth chapter of the “Club Life” series! This time, we have the China Volume number 5, by far my favorite!

I loved how the Dutch legend and his teammates created something fluent, enjoyable, full of surprises, different genres, and edits. In the album, there are other artists, especially John Christian, a producer that I love and he’s keeping to produce monstrous tunes, and the mysterious SWACQ. Needless to say that they did a great job, I liked almost all the selected productions. In addition, I felt that the three teammates brought something special to the album: Tiësto, with his solid experience and unique skills, John Christian, with his versatile and captivating style, and SWACQ, with his mysterious personality and innovative way of thinking

Welcome to “Club Life Vol. 5”. For you, by EDM Reviewer.

1. TIËSTO

Club Life

Let’s first analyze the protagonist’s job. Tiësto did his best, I was really impressed by the amount of good music he dropped, filling when necessary with great remixes and edits. He immediately surprised me with a splendid Intro edit of “Harder” with KSHMR, and with “Faster Than A Bullet” with Vassy, both great tracks! The amount of progressive house there is surprisingly high, even if more powerful than usual, not the emotional one.
The Dutch legend demonstrated to be able to keep up the actual trends, while adding his personality, experience and ability.

Then, he showed some bass house skills with the massive “Scream”, featuring John Christian and “Boom” with Sevenn. I didn’t appreciate very much the second one, I still don’t get that repetitive drop, even if the bass is wonderful. In the middle, we have two crazy remixes, both progressive, and other two remixes in the end. Classic Tiësto skills here, because they have all a nice vocal, crazy melody and an enjoyable atmosphere. A bit generic, but perfect for an album, I found them very emotional and good for filling the space.

Then, “Fat Beat” stunned me with its (necessary joke) fat beat. Elegant yet energetic electro tune, it was a fantastic surprise, I loved the bouncing drop. Same case for “Don’t Stop”, it has that nostalgic mood that reminded “C’mon” (which is included in the album, remixed by John Christian) and a catchy melody.

2. JOHN CHRISTIAN

Club Life

In the middle, John Christian takes the command of the album with a selection of massive tunes. I always respected his ability to mix bass and electro house, and in this “Club Life” he did better than his best. I loved everything he did, especially the “Brolab” collab and the “C’Mon” remix. I will talk about the super collab in the next paragraph because I want to focus on John’s singles.

The Dutch artist took a progressive approach too, as you can see on lovely tunes as “Revolt” and “Funkastars”. Both are really similar: melodic, emotional, but with a powerful energy that only John Christian can transmit. A bit unusual for his style, but they were two amazing surprises for me.

However, the “C’Mon” remix was absurd, I must say. John Christan perfectly reworked the old anthem, and even if I love the original, I felt immediately in love with the complex drop.

3. SWACQ

Club Life

The third part is dedicated to SWACQ, a new talent of the Tiësto roster. We have few data about him yet, but he’s clearly a versatile artist, with a bass house approach and acid electro influences. Apart from symbolizing the new signature sound of Tiësto’s label, the young artist represents the “future” in this album, with heavy bangers like “The Impact” and the melodic yet aggressive “Guerilla”. I highly suggest checking them, freshness everywhere. I loved even his collab with Tiësto, “Sumos”, a super creative hybrid between big room, electro and bass house, that lead was unique. He is still mysterious, but I smell some talent here!

In the end, Tiësto, John Christian and SWACQ teamed up on “Brolab”. This song is the symbol of the album, plus my personal favorite. A perfect hybrid of the three styles, both innovative and nostalgic, a super concentrate of different mindstyles. Superlative, the icing on the cake that Club Life Vol.5 represents. I loved the “family feeling” they gave to the song, and how it symbolizes the three producers together.

In the end, “Club Life Vol.5: China” is a wonderful selection, with a perfect balance between old styles, trends, experimentation, and creativity. Extremely recommended!
