Fonk Recordings inaugurates its new design with a vintage release!
Edited by Dannic himself, the label owner, “Old School” is a track from two Fonk new names, Rauyven and Valexx, an Italian duo already seen on Protocol and Armada.
I’ve honestly never considered very much those guys, but I’m quickly starting to appreciate their style, it fits well on Fonk. Their sound is similar to the old Dannic music, and in fact, the title “Old School” summarizes well the tune’s characteristics.
With a minimalistic melody, some crazy drums and a catchy vocal, “Old School” impressed my mind immediately. With a little bit of “Italian groove”, the duo dropped something new and original, while following a vintage theme. I have some little complaints here, obviously, anything is perfect, but I respect their work and I’m glad to see new names in a label that has difficulties in finding artists with that specific sound.
“Old School” has a nice drop, that’s sure. I’m not a fan of monotone melodies, you surely know that, but the drums are really imposing.
My personal opinion is that the artists didn’t do their best, I think that this is only the first step in Rayven and Valexx career in Fonk and things can only improve in the future. “Old School” is a nice song, but it lacks what I love to call “the cherry on the top”. I mean that the special detail is missing, everything is cool but nothing more.
So, I will definitively suggest taking a look to “Old School”, and I hope you will like it more than me, since I’m not a super fan of groove house. Anyway, I’m pretty certain that we will see Rayven and Valexx again in future. With an even better tune, probably.
So, Fonk once again released a nice production, and I hope to hear this duo again!
