PIZZA AND VIOLINS. Martin, congratulations.
You have chosen the right combination for impressing me!
I’m really happy to finally hear “Pizza”, the new single by Martin Garrix, a lovely “vintage” progressive house track. I like a lot of things here, so, because I want to make a tidy and clear article, I will make a list.
1. PIZZA
No need to explain this point.
2. Progressive house
In my opinion, this is my favorite Garrix song of the year, in terms of personal tastes. Finally a good and instrumental progressive house, where his talents can be shown in the best way!
3. Old-style
I’ve called “Pizza” a vintage track before. Why? Because this is the old Martin Garrix style, the one used in “Keygen” and “Midnight Sun 2.0“, his first tracks… Yes, I am a nostalgic person.
I adore this soft and simple progressive style because I’m sure that there is the real Martin here, and I love his genuineness.
4. Elegance
The violins in the intro are by far the best idea of this guy in 2017. They add an elegant and classy mood to the song, making it unique and magic. Plus, I love violins. The calm rhythm, together with a clever choice of samples, created a really good mood
Then, since I must be impartial, I didn’t like one particular.
5. The Melody
Lovely and catchy, yes, but waaaay too similar to “Million Voices“ by Otto Knows in the drop. Sure, they are different songs, but this detail bothered me, even if it’s just a similarity.
In the end, this time Garrix dropped a splendid progressive track. I must say that “Pizza” is not a masterpiece, but I consider it his best song of 2017. I really hope that he will keep releasing that kind of progressive in the future!
