Cygnus X – Superstring (Ummet Ozcan Remix)

One of the greatest trance productions ever was released in 1996 by the German Duo Cygnus X. “Superstring” was a “once in a lifetime” track.

Born as a hard trance tune (Hard trance was a genre that was dominant in the electronic music scene in 90’s), the track got various remixes over the years, from Nicky Romero to Rank 1. My favorite remix is in fact made by the legendary trance duo Rank 1, already become a classic.

But today a new name has been added to the list.

The prominent Dutch Dj/Producer Ummet Ozcan has given a “”””modern”””” twist to this classic. Kinda modern actually, because there are some old-Ummet Ozcan-style elements too.

As you might be knowing, Ummet was earlier a renowned trance producer. If you remember his production “The Cube”, then you can relate it with this remix: is a hybrid between big room and tech trance influenced bassline… Analogous to the modern trance, but still with Ummet distinctive style.

The track is a bit short, with only one drop and a breakdown which showcases the original track… A particular that I didn’t love. “Superstrings” starts with a groovy intro, having a one-shot synth playing throughout, smoothly escalating and then perfectly transitioning to the breakdown.

That part gives an epic and euphoric feeling as the original saw breakdown from the original track comes up. Another thing which is really very appreciable is that the whole breakdown has been remade with new sounds! A lovely idea, fresh and genuine. There is a vocal as a supplement, which to be honest, felt a bit out of the place, but it still was an authentic idea.

The breakdown switches to a short riser, leading the way to the imposing drop. The drop contains classic big room/electro synths, but the bassline makes the drop really interesting and hitting; the “tech trance influenced” bassline. Fast paced and energetic!

This remix is definitely has been well done, I am really impressed with it. The classic track fits well with a modern approach. I would really like to see Ummet come back to trance genre with this style!
