The Dutch duo is back with an interesting hybrid between psy and hardstyle!
“By Myself” is the Mainstage Music release of the week, and once again D-Block & S-Te-Fan are dropping some hard music!
The hardstyle duo is not a newcomer here, but it’s the first time that their Mainstage production shows their full stage names and not the usual “DBSTF”. Why?
Well, it’s really easy to explain once you’ve heard “By Myself”.
DBSTF is the stage name for big room releases, while the original D-Block & S-Te-Fan is used when they are focused into hardstyle. That’s really comfortable: I already knew that the song was hardstyle just by looking at the cover!
Surprisingly, “By Myself” is pretty far from the typical hardstyle schemes, especially on the first drop. Psy-Hardstyle is the correct genre!
I really liked the hybrid drop, a perfect mix between the vintage D-Block & S-Te-Fan style and aggressive psy-trance. Old style and futuristic at the same time, amazing idea! And that vocal was really nostalgic…
Anyway, the duo didn’t keep the psy-trance influence in the second part but produced a usual hardstyle break (with a nice melody, even if the buildup didn’t impress me) instead. In fact, the second drop is 100% hardstyle, a lovely concentration of D-Block & S-Te-Fan energy and style! As usual, the kick is majestic, and that vocal, as said, really added an elegant touch to “By Myself”!
In the end, I consider it an enjoyable track, with a bit of courage and innovation in the beginning, and I really hope to hear more stuff like that from D-Block & S-Te-Fan!
