It’s not hard to grasp the motive behind this rework of Issey Cross, which got a brand new vocal from The Verve’s unforgettable violins at “Bitter Sweet Simphony” and a DnB bassline. I like the original, which goes for the successful trend initiated by Guetta and Bebe Rexha with their viral release from last year.

But today we are talking about a Tiësto remix. Yes, the Dutch artist has put his spin on this delicate release and molded a Hardcore version… Quite surprising to say the least!

Tiesto decided to trade genres and work with a softer Hardstyle drop, where the kick lays down pretty lightly as the lead screams pure vengeance. A real shock coming from the “Bittersweet Simphony” violins, and it’s hard to whether I prefer this concept. The original fused the old and new in a harmonic balance, retaining a graceful atmosphere that gets totally disrupted here. One would say that’s exactly the point of a Hardcore remix, and while that’s valid, maybe smoother transitions could have helped.

In the end, though I prefer the delicate original, Tiësto’s take on “Bittersweet Goodbye” is a real festival bomb ticking to go off on audiences aware of the classic. A wise remix that also brings a new sound, so I can’t complain.
