The world of indie-pop is exciting. Although we rarely cover it due to differences in genres, there’s no denying the talent brimming in such independently functioning acts. ASHWYN (formerly Astra), has set up a veritable reputation by blending electronica with rock influences: a creative effort that has lent him well-performing discography.
“The One That I Turn To” is the newest offering from the LA-based moniker, coming right after his EP “Skar,” which came out last year. The four tracks in the said compilation soared with lush atmospheres, thanks to the glimmering tones from the guitar riffs and synths.
Applying similar aesthetics, this time ASHWYN constructed a romantic dance-pop instrumental, augmenting the emotions with a well-sung performance. Grabbing attention further are the guitars, an earnest acoustic one in the breakdowns while a funky one takes over at the drops. Perhaps inspired by top acts such as the Chainsmokers, the main hook comes in the form of a cadent future bass package of playful electro-saw synths interspersed with groovy riffs. Throughout the rendition, the songwriting and the vocals consistently remain vibrant and sincere with heartfelt confessions.
Radio-ready and fit for a wide audience, “The One That I Turn To” will entice listeners across genres. With this feat, ASHWYN is sure to gain momentum and traction in the coming days!
