• Mia Vaile sings about loneliness with personality and passion
• Heavy support from a splendid guitar component
• Influences from Melodic Dubstep
Continuing our journey of discovering newer, lesser-known talents possibly exploring different sounds in the EDM specter… This one packs a surprise, certainly. I couldn’t believe myself when I clicked ‘approve’ on this submission from Mia Vaile.
Well, not because it’s a bad song! “Lonely Girl” is a superlative piece, blending a Rock guitar in a slower, lush environment and embedding a familiar Melodic Dubstep drop to spice things up! The genre is… Alternative Rock I guess, or Rocktronica (Electronica + Rock)? Nonetheless, I was enchanted by it, so here goes my totally unprofessional take on Mia’s creative work.
As said, there’s the constant presence of the guitar amidst the breakdown. One might be expecting a sudden and abrupt explosion, a powerful riff as we are used to hearing in the rock genre, yet “Lonely Girl” prefers a subtler approach. First of all, the mentioned songstress sings about loneliness: being alone and not understanding this world, perfectly accompanied by swift pauses in the build-up. Then, a lead synth is directly placed akin to those used in Melodic Dubstep, merging with an elegant guitar solo riff, all in a very balanced sequence that bolsters the right dose of dynamism to a song that could have otherwise suffered from a slower pace.
The formula is likable, which stitches together distinct ingredients with thoughtful lyricism and a charming voice, and considering the recent boom of emo/punk rock centered around similar themes, this track has a considerable amount of potential to get heavy rotations on radios/playlists.
Again, my curiosity is peaked by the possible aggressive twist to “Lonely Girl” by another artist, just to match our audience’s tastes. I still consider this version splendid, which would leave a good impression on many. Congratulations to Mia Vaile for the work, this was a great experience!
