Greg Dela x Donkong – Dreams

November 1, 20212 min read

• Duality between an innocent break and…
• Wobbling drops with a futuristic tone
• Fun and surprising twists

A sublime team-up, today’s selection is a studio joint-effort shared between two upcomers who have shown a lot of potential, personally speaking. Greg Dela from Belgium is specialized in a special sort of Future House, featuring slower, passionate breakdowns with eccentric wobbling drops. “Dreams” follows his typical sonic approach with an appreciable amount of genuineness added by the duo Donkong. The latter has a focus towards glitchier side of Bass House and it’s the ingredient to finalize such an unpredictable scheme.

“Dreams” welcomes with a lovely vocal that plays over a delicate and sparse base, where the fat kick is the only contrasting standout among the rest… and then, all of a sudden, the distortions come in and we enter into this psychedelic setting. Low-pitched vocal and wobbling leads heavily distorted to both artist’s tastes, dominate here! Abruptly as it began, the section ends and we come to the seemingly innocent and delectable vocal-led segment.

The two drops performing here are different: the first one follows a more typical Greg Dela wobbling signature, commonplace for Hexagon releases, while the final climax is more linear with a heavier lead. Reminded me of Marshmello if you ask me, to give a rough idea.

This duality struck between the “dreamy” and the “wake up” phases is the key for understanding this record, and candidly speaking, I loved it. The Belgium based act and the Germany based electronic pair have enough wits to create a great Future House song, not exclusive of refreshing schematics and surprising twists. I hope that this release will bring them more exposure, as the said genre in particular needs reinventive efforts such as this.
