Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman VS. Mike Perry – We Are Here Now

February 8, 20212 min read

• Cosy vocal performance
• Distinctive DV&W drop
• Demure break

After a considerable time without writing reviews, I’m finally back at it! Correct me if I’m wrong, but I guess there’s no better comeback than reviewing a beautiful piece of progressive house, especially if the title is “We Are Here Now” (yes, my bad jokes are back too, I’m sorry). The iconic duo formed by Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman joined forces again with Mike Perry to craft a squeamish composition that definitely deserves some attention.

You already know that I always start my reviews at the beginning, that is to say, at the first break, but… surprise, there’s no first break this time! “We Are Here Now” starts directly with a build-up, something usual in other genres such as Big Room, but not in this one. Anyway, let’s start with the second (and only) break then. Since the very first bars, we can hear some pads that accompany a priceless vocal which was written and sung by the production duo The Companions, even if they don’t appear as a featuring. The whole break consists only on those elements, making the most of the “less is more” slogan.

The drop contains all the elements that shape Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman’s signature sound: a rolling bassline, strong percussions and, of course, their characteristic elegant but intense lead. The melody is definitely catchy, although it’s someway a bit predictable. Anyway, as long as it sounds good I have no problem with that, trying to innovate with melodies is really risky and it could end badly if you’re not very clear about what you’re doing.

“We Are Here Now” is a great addition to the Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman and Mike Perry’s vast catalogue. At a time when slap house and bass house are cornering the market of EDM, it’s always reassuring to see such big names still releasing progressive house and being faithful to their style instead of being carried away by passing trends.
