Jonny Spalding – Hole In My Heart

September 28, 20202 min read

• Soul and Jazz mixed with Tropical and Deep House
• Stunning elegance from the vocal element
• Particularly amazed by the percussions

After a couple of stressful days, I was looking for something chilly and relaxing for recharging my batteries. I rarely explore the Deep House/Tropical House world, but when I do, I often find interesting gems. Today is the turn of “Hole In My Heart”, a melancholic craft that impressed me for its elegant vibes.

It’s an uncommon pick for EDM Reviewer, I know that, but we can’t always present Progressive House. Our broad offering of genres is continously expanding, from Hardstyle to Chillstep.

Anyway, let’s talk about the author, Jonny Spalding. The English creator is actually a veteran of the genre, but after various successful projects he has decided to start a solo career a few months ago. Spalding adds jazz and soul vibes to Tropical House, a genre that I always found “stuck” into its own boundaries. That’s pretty exctiting, even if I’m just a casual listener: I love people who break the rules of music.

While listening to “Hole In My Heart”, I felt trapped into the warm and entertaining atmosphere crafted by the vocalist, while a subtle and delicate base supported the whole structure. The riffs are introducing some dynamic percussions, adding Deep House influences in the already unique formula. The vocal is obivously the dominant element of “Hole In My Heart”, but I can’t ignore the stunning job on these drums! Definitively, this is some quality sound design.

Simple, yet effective. Jonny Spalding used wisely few ingredients and created a tune that relaxed and intrigued me at the same time. I’m very grateful for this production and I am definitively recommending it!
