When we think about young talents in the electronic music scene, there’s always one name that will come instantly to our minds. Of course, I’m talking about Sefa, the Dutch music prodigy obsessed with harpsichords, organs and church music. Beyond his undeniable technical skills, his classical background makes him a versatile, effective and mature producer that always knows the key to put emotions into his melodies. He joined forces this time with the mighty Phuture Noize to create “Apocalypse“, a powerful yet emotional tune with a unique soul.
As the great pianist that Sefa is, there’s no better way to start a song like this than putting a charming piano and a velvety female voice in the first bars of the break. Little by little, the typical dance music elements start to appear: a Reese bass, some breakbeat style percussion and airy pads, always playing really well-chosen chord progressions that increase smoothly the hype of the listener. Suddenly, everything stops. After that intriguing silence, the melody strikes at its full power, being played by a lead that explains why Phuture Noize is also featured in this track.
The drop is, in my personal experience, pure madness. The classical frenchcore style kicks claim their presence as soon as the drop begins, working as a solid base for the main melody, which is definitely gorgeous. The lead deserves also a special mention, because its uncommon glide settings resulted in a really pleasant sensation to my ears, denoting creativity and originality.
When you see these two monsters of hard dance in the title of a song, you automatically start to have big expectations on it, but it’s wonderful how music can surprise you again and again exceeding the prospect you had about it. Tunes like “Apocalypse” remind me why my love for hard dance increases day by day.
