Danny Avila – LaLa

July 22, 20192 min read

Incoherent song
“Co-produced” by WILL K and Eddie Thoneick: not exactly two amateurs
Complete absence of personality

I already have my prejudices about Smash The House and Danny Avila, but “LaLa” gave me such a bad impression that I needed to write about this release.

I have strong, strong, strong doubts about Danny Avila sitting in front of a PC and creating this tune. According to Spotify credits, the “co-producers” behind this track are WILL K and Eddie Thoneick, two highly experienced producers… I didn’t understand why they created a song that doesn’t fit at all with Danny Avila, on a label where he never released, without the effort a fan is expecting from these professionists. It sounds like something a beginning producer would create when trying to make psy-trance. In fact, “LaLa” copies the ethnic Timmy Trumpet psy-trance style in almost an insulting way: they even added a trumpet solo in the breakdown! Listening to the melodies, I immediately remembered his track with KSHMR, “The People” as well as KSHMR’s collaboration with Tigerlily, “Invisible Children“, because of the sampled familiar vocal. At least with Timmy’s tunes I can find some unpredictable elements, while in this case, I just find the most mundane approach around.

I was really confused about the existence of “LaLa”. It seemed such an unnecessary song, with a super lazy approach…  Then I remembered that TomorrowLand is going on and a Smash the House record will surely be played out by many DJs, including the residents and label owners Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.

In short, this a rushed tune released just to capitalize on this huge festival, and the lack of motivation is clearly noticeable. Will K and Eddie Thoneick weren’t incentivated at all.

This review wasn’t necessary, but I just want to spread awareness about “LaLa”, and how it lacks personality, character, and integrity. I rarely insult a product from a musician, but I’m not afraid to call it “garbage” this time.
