Armin van Buuren & Luke Bond feat. KARRA – Revolution

June 11, 20192 min read

• An original and potentially intriguing concept
• Questionable vocal choice
• Great job by Bond, less of one by Armin

As a response to a fan suggestion, we discovered “U” by Luke Bond some months ago. I was immediately impressed by the song, and by this British producer, who got a particular and engaging style. His melodies are crazy in terms of catchiness; they have a certain epic aura that is seldom found.

His inventive concept with trance intrigued me, and I was thrilled to see him working with the Trance boss. In fact, in “Revolution”, we find the legendary Armin, who needs no introduction, obviously, and KARRA, one of the essential vocalists around. I was hyped for this monstrous collaboration, and 2/3rd of the parties involved respected my expectations. This should explain the rating.

Luke Bond worked on a majestic breakdown, with epic melodies which are typical of him. One of the best breaks I’ve heard in a while. His work was excellent, the drop clearly shows influence from Bond, but it’s distinct that Armin had his contribution towards it too. Not a bad drop, even though I think it lacks some personality, a helping that “Revolution” could use. It’s a bit basilar. I missed the right instruments for this kind of mood, like trumpets, horns, screeches, etc. for instance. In my opinion, the overall instrumental rating is 85.

KARRA, despite her fantastic voice, became the shackles to this song. The delicate vocal didn’t fit with the aggressive tone of the rest of the song. Sometimes contrast works wonders, in other cases, it’s like having Lil Jon screaming over a Kygo Tropical House track, which makes no sense to me. A war cry or an energetic vocal would have accentuated the ambiance that this track has to provide.

“Revolution” was a unique concept, and the first breakdown from Bond only provides more concrete evidence for the same. However, failed decisions like the choice of the vocalist and having a single drop led to a rather disappointing result for me.
