Sidney Samson & Lil Jon – Mutate (2k19 Festival Mix)

March 11, 20192 min read

• Dutch House rework of the 2011 tune
• Festival Big Room influences
• Lil Jon never disappoints in terms of catchiness

I didn’t plan any review this week, but “Mutate 2k19” made me change my mind. It’s such an enjoyable song! I mean, it’s the kind of club banger that when the DJ plays it, you push around your friends trying to make as much noise as possible. That’s the impression that it gave me.

Sidney Samson is evidently readapting his Dutch House style into a more modern structure while keeping his signature sound. This rework of his 2011 collab with Lil Jon can help show the differences and similarities between past and current style. The 2011 phase has been somewhat underrated; his drop was particular, minimalistic… Unexpected.

The 2019 Sidney Samson picked that drop, added many festival elements, minor changes in the breakdown and released it. The result is much better in our opinion! It’s a simple structure, where Lil Jon makes his screaming performance in the break and a Dutch House drop presents its squeaky lead with big room snares and a brutal bassline… But it works. “Mutate (2k19 Festival Mix)” can be a perfect festival smasher, for us. Just a few, profound minor changes and an eight years old song can be interesting for the current scene.

Sidney Samson demonstrated that Dutch House isn’t dead, once again. Sure, the “Mutate 2k19” rework isn’t a particularly complex tune, but we are sure that it’ll make you dance again and again!
