Few events can rival the quality of the year ABGT celebrations. You might say ASOT, but they go for quantity, and while watching sets you’re left with a tinge of regret that you’re not listening to another artists who’s playing at the same time.
ABGT on the other hand, is just one stage, which makes the lineup and resulting festival seem like a cohesive story from start to finish. And it was at last year’s ABGT 300 when this song was debuted. By label bosses Above & Beyond. It’s hard to beat that kind of premiere, but it’s also hard to beat the quality seen in this song.
“Perfect Ghost” from experienced producer Myon and budding vocalist Alissa Feudo is one of those tunes which induce goosebumps in the most hauntingly beautiful way possible. Atmospheric pads, melodious vocals and euphoric drops are all elements which you’ll find no dearth of in this song.
A follow-up to their previous collaboration Omen in the Rain (incidentally the Seven Lions remix is one of my favorites of all time), Perfect Ghost retains the progressive elements but adds a bit more emotion compared to its predecessor. Its soothing vocals were received in a very positive light by the Anjunafamily and the trance community in general.
The first section of the song is acoustic and ambient; the only giveaway of it being an EDM tune is the soft kicks and bass line that’s heavily filtered. As the track builds towards the chorus, spooky FXs add some spice to the track. A slow, mesmerizing tune turns into a euphoric energetic one in a matter of seconds as the pad and vocal-filled breakdown moves into a short buildup into the classic progressive trance drop. Even in the packed, dense drop, that slow, winding emotional journey still remains intact through a calming, gentle top melody. It’s a journey from start to finish, and even more so if you take a listen to the Extended mix, which includes a heavy, raw bass-line drop which provides a startling, yet phenomenal introduction to the track.
Two salient features of this track that really stood out to me over multiple listens of this track. First up were the extended atmospheric sections, as they console you with their lighthearted nature. They complement Alissa’s soothing voice extremely well, and add that extra evocative touch to the single. This is furthered by the addition of organic elements like the piano and the acoustic guitar which make “Perfect Ghost” sound so much more heartfelt and personal.
The version you heard was just the Club Mix, and you can expect the downtempo original mix soon if that’s your style – the music video for it has just passed its recording stage. I really hope Alissa Feudo features on many more EDM tracks, because I just can’t get enough of her voice. As for Myon, he’s going to keep releasing songs true to his progressive trance “Ride Recordings” styled niche – which you can also hear in his newest remix for dance-pop artist Gryffin.
