• Yuhuu, Glitch EDM!
• Unexpected remix in an extremely dark key
• The original vocal is still hypnotic
It’s the first time that I am speaking about the US trend of “Glitched EDM” brought to success by artists like REZZ, The Glitch Mob and 1788-L… But let’s try this new challenge! I enjoy those curious drops, they are futuristic and creative, but I’m often struggling with the breakdowns. Because of their structure, I rarely find something catchy and enjoyable for my tastes. This remix of Hex Cougar is a perfect solution to my personal problem: an Illenium production with a generic drop has been “improved” with a glitchy dark section!
“God Damnit” was a good tune from the American talent, but I couldn’t appreciate the drop enough, rather to say, predictable. This new remix, au contraire, amazed me and also gave a great opportunity to present a different kind of EDM than usual. The calm and melancholic vocal by Call Me Karizma kept the original magnetism, while the relaxing bass slowly escalates into a brutal glitched drop. It’s difficult to describe, because it has many elements altogether, but the heavy bassline is its main structure. Minimal, slow, yet full of energy, this arrangement by Hex Cougar is a pure concentration of stamina.
This combination of almost minimal and peaceful breakdown (with dark vibes in the lyrics though) and the wild, mysterious drop is the key to the success of this banger. Loved it!
It’s mainly a matter of tastes, if you prefer this unique concoction of sounds, you will likely enjoy the remix of “God Damnit”. Otherwise, this is a nice chance to experiment something new. Recommended.
