Trobi – We Can Change (Infinity)

January 17, 20192 min read

• Rework of the classic “Infinity
• Predictable breakdown
• Catchy, but not THAT catchy

I was genuinely intrigued by the upcoming release of Trobi, “We Can Change (Infinity)”… The funny cover and the rumors about the fact that it was a rework of the legendary “Infinity” had caught my attention… But unfortunately, I have to mark it as a disappointment.

Starting with some background, Trobi is a young (only 17!) talent of the Spinnin’ roster, mainly focused on a particular kind of tropical house, more futuristic and aggressive. His latest tune with Vorwerk, “Makamba,” was exciting, so I had high expectations from this Dutch producer. However, things can’t be expected to turn out right every time. “We Can Change” bored me and, in my humble opinion, didn’t have the same charm as of the original (or any other rework).

My biggest struggle is with the drop part and the breakdown’s guitar. The guitar was so predictable, not exactly what I was expecting from a guy that doesn’t have problems with creative samples… Then, the drop. The signature “Infinity” sax is present but put in the background, and it follows the rhythm with a different melody. And that’s when “We Can Change” fails, in my opinion. Trobi did an acceptable job, because the song is still, in my opinion, somewhat enjoyable, but used a fundamental element, the sax, in a way that doesn’t show its full potentiality. That sample could be way more catchy and hypnotic, but it hasn’t been used in that way.

In the end, “We Can Change (Infinity)” is not a tremendous release, and in our view does not deserve a positive rating either. It’s the kind of song that I listen to, and I think “this is a good idea, but could be implemented way better“. I have high hopes from Trobi regardless; it’s a name to look out for!
