Our second “WHAT IF?” is a collaboration that will surely make some eyes roll… But we have hope from these guys. On one side, we have a living example of “poppish EDM”, and on the other, one of the most highly esteemed legends of the Dubstep world.
The Chainsmokers, despite receiving a lot of hate for their pop releases, are slowly coming back to aggressive dubstep. After their splendid set at UMF, with no pop tracks, and two unusual releases with NGHTMRE and Aazar (dubstep and aggressive trap), we feel that the American duo is showing us some encouraging signs. A collaboration with the epic producer Kill The Noise, in our crazy minds, could be the nail in the coffin of their pop period.
Kill The Noise doesn’t need any introduction. It is a bit unlikely to see him challenging his style with such a risky collab, but in our WHAT IF? series we can dare to put together such names. This could be an intriguing chance to see two extremely different type of artists creating music.
For us, the result would be amazing. “FORGOTTEN” can showcase a breakdown by The Chainsmokers, represented by solemn strings and with their splendid vocal, almost minimal, and a sudden dark twist that introduces us to an explosive dubstep drop. We are imagining something similar to “Save Yourself”, but with a solid KTN imprint in the drop, making it unforgettable.
The title wasn’t a casual decision: “FORGOTTEN…” is a direct reference to their notorious album “Memories… Do Not Open”. The memories have been forgotten, the pop and the sentimental period are gone. We imagine the message to be problematic and about negative feelings, like most of The Chainsmokers latest releases (“Everybody Hates Me” over all). The capital letters represent the aggressiveness of this feeling (and of the song), while the three bullets follow the structure of their album titles… Even if we are speaking of a single, its importance could be equivalent to that of an EP.
This is our (extremely unlikely) dream collab between The Chainsmokers and Kill The Noise. We hope to hear something similar to our imaginary creation, in the future.
