WHAT IF? – DJ Snake & KSHMR – Himalaya Riddim

October 26, 20182 min read

With this new series, we would like to have fun imagining hypothetical collaborations between EDM artists.

The first pick is between two masters of the “ethnic” EDM. The French DJ Snake, famous for hits like “Turn Down For What” and “Get Low”, plus “Lean On” and “Bumaye” as Major Lazer, is recently releasing a particular series of songs: the “Riddims”. “Magenta Riddim” and “Maradona Riddim” are experimental tracks that try to explore the Indian and Argentinian (or Nigerian, based on different points of view) world, with local vocals and ethnic sounds. His style is hypnotic, tribal-influenced and extremely catchy.

Similarly, the American producer KSHMR based his whole career on Indian sounds, working with an efficient mix of creativity and ethnical samples. This approach has proved to be extremely appreciated because of the unique vibes that always manages to generate.

We tried to imagine a collab between those geniuses. “Himalaya Riddim” shows a classic KSHMR imprint, with a DJ Snake innovative structure. A mix of tribal sounds and electro house samples, accompanied by a fresh vocal loop, elegant and mysterious. The rhythm should be calm and exotic, creating a hypnotic atmosphere with the right EDM elements. We would like to visualise it as an experiment rather than a commercial hit, probably underrated by the masses but loved by loyal fans of that unusual duo.

During the years, KSHMR has always tried to collaborate with different artists, exploring other worlds outside the “mainstream EDM”. We can nominate Snails, Headhunterz, Dillon Francis and Mark Sixma as examples… Is it possible to picture him challenging with the unique DJ Snake style? For us, it would be an awesome chance for the EDM world.

How would you imagine “Himalaya Riddim”? Let us know!
