Hardwell & VINAI feat. Cam Meekins – Out Of This Town

62/100

• Static melody in the drop
• Intense breakdown, by far the best part
• Doubtful vocal performance

You were hoping for a good review, ain’t it? But no, I am a picky a-hole and I’m criticizing “Out Of This Town” today.

Putting all jokes aside, the new Revealed release is a good move by Hardwell. VINAI, despite not having a fantastic reputation, have a style that works in live exhibitions. It’s criticizable, sure, but the bouncy signature structure definitely sounds catchy to me. Hardwell, as always, wisely added his touch, delivering a final product that will surely be effective in live performances and in clubs.

However, however, however… I do have some complaints. First of all, the drop is static. That melody doesn’t completely manage to add the classic VINAI dynamism to the song… Resulting in a forgettable and almost lazy result. A stronger bassline adds more energy in the second part, but it’s not really solving the matter.

The breakdown is entertaining and well structured, and it’s the part that really intrigued me. It’s exactly what I was hoping to hear from those names together, it represents their influences in a clean and intelligent manner. A pinch of old Hardwell style, capable of adding climax and power to the song. However, as already pointed out before, Cam Meekins didn’t manage to balance such a strong base, with a performance that I found quite powerless. I couldn’t find the right passion, especially when the buildup is escalating. His voice seems to fit better with chilly bases rather than festival hits.

In conclusion, the breakdown saved “Out Of This Town“, at least in my personal judgment. It’s a decent release by Hardwell but doesn’t particularly impress me, leaving a poor taste in my mouth after the listening session.
