Nanu – Venom

• Bass house with dubstep and vomitstep influences
• The protagonist is the famous villain
• Clean drop, with interesting elements

Ahhh, I really appreciate movie-themed EDM songs! Many of them utilise the classic clichés, like Harry Potter or Pirates Of The Caribbean, but the world is full of little gems like “Venom”. In addition, that’s a good occasion to bring some bass house, a genre that has been requested many times.

“Venom”, evidently, is inspired by the upcoming Venom movie… I always liked that villain, I think he/it/they/whatever have the right charm. The creator is a Canadian talent, Nanu. Focused on Jauz/Ephwurd bass house style, he brings a more aggressive approach, with a pinch of dubstep (and vomitstep) in it. Original. And I didn’t even start to describe his latest work.

The climax rises in a good and pleasant way, with samples taken from the movie, supported by an escalating system of percussions. The vocal structure is a bit dispersive, being honest, but creative. The laugh in the drop, used as fill, is a detail that amazed me in particular! Creepy… But it does its job.

Speaking about the drop, it’s surprisingly linear. A strong bassline begins playing, while brutal growls entertain the listener. The structure presents many different elements, some of them vomitstep-inspired, however, it results in a really clean output… So clean that I thought that “Venom” needed a couple of elements to be added, to add more chaos to an evidently dark concept.

However, this cleanness has to be considered a positive element! In fact, I really enjoyed the production, a nice piece of bass house that entertains, with originality and a well-structured approach.

In conclusion, Nanu dropped a great and satisfying production! Especially if you are a Spiderman fan, you need to check it out!
