• Dutch House is surprisingly back in the EDM scene!
• Festival smasher with a hypnotic melody
• Simple structure, old-school approach

2018 is definitively the year of comebacks. Glorious comebacks. This time, we have Sidney Samson, Gwise and their legendary Dutch House. The genre hit its peak around 2010, thanks to bangers like “Riverside” by Samson and, later, “Take Over Control” by Afrojack and (what a coincidence), Sidney’s wife, Eva Simmons.

If you are a fan of the good old Dutch House, characterized by acid basslines and squeaky, high-pitched lead synths, you will be amazed by “Soldier”. Teaming up with the loyal companion Gwise (already seen with the Dutch producer in “GO“, 2012, “Guess Who’s Back“, 2015, and an underrated remix of “Policeman“), Sidney Samson dropped an old school bomb that, unexpectedly, sounds quite fresh!

The initial melody in the break is catchy in a fantastic way, even if it’s supported by only a simple clap sequence. The drop, as well, has a pretty solid yet unadorned structure. Aggressive drums, signature lead, intriguing melody. Perfect for festivals, it has that vintage touch that makes everything fascinating. Many fans found similarities with “Rock The House” by Afrojack, in particular… But this is Dutch House, those are the rules and the signature sounds to use.

It’s awesome, for us, to see such an “old-fashioned” approach being used in 2018. If we have to be precise, its biggest con is the simple structure, but “Soldier” manages to entertain in a way we can’t easily describe. It’s catchy, and it works. It’s one of the most played songs at Tomorrowland 2018, by big names like Hardwell, Nicky Romero, Bassjackers and David Guetta, and this fact left us pleasantly surprised.

Dutch House, the pure type, is considered dead nowadays. Sidney Samson brought it again with the classic formula, and the experiment seems working. We are happy about “Soldier”, a release that manages to impress and entertain with simplicity, and we are curious about the future of the genre… Should we expect more Dutch House in the near future?
