Among all the brilliant artists releasing quality music this month, the LA-based luminary KSHMR has another adept production for us. Impressing fans with splendid releases in the past few months, he has also been leading the music scene with his genuine record label, Dharma. Today we will be talking specifically about his latest work, along with the renowned MR. BLACK. This team-up certainly adds to the excitement, as both the parties have an imposing reputation in the genre of Electro House. Naming their product as “Doonka”, this formidable track oozes power and intensity quite easily.
While the Indian-American heavyweight has displayed diversity this year, he still retains his attribute of making narrative music. Starting with a worthy follow-up of his master-stroke “Wildcard”, along with the talented Sidnie Tipton, he also went on to tantalize his fan-base with a side-project christened “MVI”. The previous month, he also unveiled an energetic remix of “Gladiator”, crafted by musical mastermind Hans Zimmer. On the other hand, MR. BLACK has been quite active in yesteryear, with releases like “Party People” and “Higher”. Initiating this year with the peppy “Boomshakalak”, he has also been focusing on his own duo act of “The Warriors”.
Being debuted and road-tested in the first week of Tomorrowland Belgium 2017, “Doonka” garnered appreciation among the crowds.
The breakdown, preceding the heavy drop, features a peculiar vocal snippet droning, while at the same time there is a development of requisite tension. With a minimal and non-melodic attitude, the breakdown transitions to the typical riser in no time. After this, follows the hulking and dominating segment of the drop. It introduces jersey-club inspired groove: consisting of upbeat drums playing in an offbeat way. At the same time, the background elements compliment the signature electro synths with booming bass and kick. While it may sound less capable on the paper, it works effectively. To enhance the stamina, a trap version of the same succeeds to embed variation. The drop may not be very experimental or creative, it aptly fits the song without faltering!
To summarize, “Doonka” is undoubtedly a festival-worthy material, made to match the tone for any gig. This pair of artists certainly knows what they are doing!
