That’s the specific question that many fans are asking themselves. The change in the career of the Swedish luminary is impressive: after the disappointing set at Tomorrowland, many rumors are spreading about his apparent unsatisfactory mood. The artist seemed puzzled, without the usual passion, and played a selection that doesn’t really make sense in that context. Lack of “festival” songs in a set of one of the biggest festival left everybody scratching their head, if not disappointed. Even The Chainsmokers, the classic example of “pop-ish EDM”, always focuses on aggressive and energetic live-sets.
Since past couple of months, Alesso seems tired and without the same passion that brought him to his peak. A couple of pop releases created a huge rift between the old progressive house fan base and the new one, who are used to tropical vibes. Alesso seems slightly out of ideas, and stressed to an extent (let’s not forget the aggressive reply given on Twitter to a fan asking for a comeback to progressive).
Alesso, back in the endeared days, was repeatedly rumoured to be a new inclusion of the supergroup, Swedish House Mafia. In a year where almost every artist is coming back to his roots, the biggest absence is undoubtedly this Swedish talent. What a shame.
Unfortunately, Alesso seems to be going through a rough patch, and we sincerely hope that he’ll find soon the correct path to follow. Drainage of such a splendid talent can’t be allowed in this competitive industry.
