• Minimal, electro sounds
• Appealing and mysterious vocals
• Quick-paced and funky
Meet “AVA”: the latest creation from Elohim and Funkin Matt, published by Heldeep records. Much like the label owner donning the alias of HI-LO for fashionable and distinctive techno, the mentioned track matches that signature with style and creativity.
If talking about the monikers involved, Funkin Matt has been a mainstay on the EDM industry for over a decade. The Norwegian creator has made appearances on various imprints— Hexagon, Revealed Recordings, and even the defunct but not forgotten Armada Trice. Joining forces with this talented figure is Elohim, who has several dance-pop hits on her resume already. She has several specialties, namely singing-songwriting coupled with production skills, a versatility that has earned her millions of streams.
What got me immediately into “AVA” is its singular devotion to minimal yet utterly groovy sound. Funkin Matt makes his trademark resonate the most, with undulating electro synths rushing with a light assortment of percussions. Accompanying this group are the vocals having an esoteric narration and a quality that almost felt a shared resemblance with sentient virtual intelligence. This applies an interesting futuristic theme over the instrumental, which steadily builds up with choice sounds. In every bit, the production strongly parallels recent offerings from Oliver Heldens (or Hi-Lo), without overtly imitating.
With its spry configuration, “AVA” is a slick and modernistic production that stands apart from the slew of other recent techno releases.
