Timmy Trumpet – Just In Case

April 13, 20222 min read

• Classy vocal, the dominant element of the release
• Kungs-like influences in the happy drop
• Decent breakdown, yet generic bassline

Every time I get reminded that my reviews are focused on the same aliases and that it’s time I should focus on newer names and their creative outputs, there’s always this release that will tug me away from this goal.

I found out about Timmy Trumpet’s latest endeavor that sounded surprisingly nice, so thought of writing down a few lines for a familiar face on this blog. Despite his constant influx of releases, I often have fun with his production demeanor that ranges anything from the opulent ‘Vivaldi’ (with Mariana Bo) to his funkier synergetic after-product with Gabry Ponte and R3HAB.

Sure, I rarely get the essence of Sinphony’s label head in most of his efforts (the trumpet is almost extinct these days, alas), yet they have an intriguing factor to elaborate on. And that exactly occurs in the case of “Just In Case”, released via Spinnin’ Records.

This is not your average joe in the Brazilian Bass scene, a forgettable tune that is an unnecessary dump to meet release quotas. Contrastingly, there’s a splendid vocal and a calmer breakdown with a punch of Tropical flavor in the lead… and an unexpected cameo from none other than the trumpet! Yes, the drop features the usual bassline, enriched by a few notes and the joyful incantations from the singer. It’s the kind of happy/party-time House that the Frenchman Kungs brought to fame, and I can almost whiff his influence in the vocal, the real dominator in “Just In Case”… If well done, like here, the outcome can be refreshingly entertaining for strong radio-friendly standards.

Even if not outstanding or downright special, “Just In Case” is a fun and breezy tune that ushers in joy and presents its own personality, thanks to its vocal and enticing sound design in its lead synths. I wouldn’t pass on this one!
