Spinnin’ x TikTok

July 18, 20202 min read

Among the many inexplicable things happening in this calamitous year are the strange predicaments, one of which has to be the recent video uploaded by the Dutch music conglomerate Spinnin’ Records. And surprise surprise, it is a fine and dandy 11-minutes-long TikTok compilation to feast our eyes upon, showcasing peachy dance moves on their latest “release” featuring the American pop-star Jason Derulo (we bet that you read this in his singing voice) and two other relatively unknown artists to us, Puri and Jhorrmountain.

As any entertainment company or brand existing in 2020, overlooking TikTok is a task comparable to ignoring a gargantuan gold mine of revenues. A total of 800 million individuals flock on this platform everyday, among which US claims a chunkful of 10% from it. Naturally, Spinnin’ being acquired by Warner Music means they have more the reasons to chase what is trending now, but what about the section of audience who has followed the imprint for a long time?

The response gathered by the aforementioned video-clip has been disastrous enough. With more than 2500 dislikes, and comments section brimming with loathing words from enraged fans, there is no disregarding that the esteemed label would probably think twice before repeating this kind of decision again.

It’s evidently that Spinnin’ is trying to gain more followers in its already impressive YT channel with experimental types of content (for example 1-hour-long running mixes), but there are, surely, certain professional boundaries to respect.

What do you think about this situation? Let us know in the comments below!
