Nicky Romero – Toulouse

October 25, 20172 min read

Toulouse.
You have chosen the “Vintage” review of this week so we are to talk about this piece of art.

First thing to say: I didn’t like it at first. I am not a courageous person, and I was young when the music video came out. Somehow, I found it creepy and I didn’t see it with attention for a lot of time, I wasn’t comfortable with those “Anonymous” masks. Yesterday I opened it again and in my opinion, the video is still great, but the song didn’t age well.

“Toulouse”, however, remains one of the most important electro songs ever, and Nicky Romero’s masterpiece.

It’s quite simple, for being an electro house production, but all its elements are perfectly crafted for making it epic. My favorite part is the break, with that hypnotic melody and the electric lead. After so many, it remains one of the most engaging breaks ever.

The drop is a bomb. Nicky Romero much time ago was really into aggressive and acid house, and “Toulouse” has been produced back then. It has the acid influence of that period (when Afrojack was ruling the scene), but a “dark” lead that somehow remained unique, even after so much time. Perfect for jumping around and having fun.

“Toulouse”, in conclusion, still remains a work of art, the highest point of Nicky Romero career (he even tattooed a soundwave of the song). With all the possible respect ever, I am happy that this does exist.
