Sunstars – Ghetto Funk

August 31, 20172 min read

79/100

Finally, after quite a long time, there is an appreciable track on Protocol recordings. After the 5 years celebration EP, we had decided to almost stop reviewing their track (you can read our reviews on that EP here and be a judge for yourself).
However, the promising and talented duo Sunstars, whose latest track “Ritual” got released on Revealed Recordings, are here with theirĀ “Ghetto Funk”.

Those two Italian producers always supriseĀ  me with their unique soundset and approach, which I feel is quite unique. They have their signature sound, but they still manage to be versatile and original!

Coming to the “Ghetto Funk” technical analysis, it’s a kind of mix/hybrid of bass house and electro groove house. Quite genuine and creative. The intro starts with a more housy approach and smoothly slides into the breakdown.

That part features a vocal sample and then a cool pitching effect comes up to bring up the drop…

Another worth mentioning thing would be a funny cowbell just before the drop impacts; it does in a way makes the track funkier. Small elements always play a major role and this situation proves it.
The drop has a more groove house influence and has some hints of bass house. Containing groove house synths, a bit more distorted and acidic. Still, it sums up energy and grooviness beyond expectation. Definitely, what a unique drop!
The second part gets a bit melodic and has a different synth come up, playing the melody and the main vocal chop playing alongside it. But it is for brief as the riser comes up again to bring up the imposing drop again.

This track definitely brightens the situation of Protocol Recordings right now, and I am very sure they are gonna get back their reputation soon. About Sunstars, this duo definitely know the recipe for good vibes!
