Lush & Simon – Callin’

Today, we will be reverting our focus back to the eminent Dutch label of Protocol, which has been keeping an impressive record lately. Be it funky electro or melodic stuff, the label is shifting its attention on releasing fresh and kinetic productions. On the 1st of this month, the versed Italian duo Lush & Simon stole the show with their new dynamic work, adding to Protocol’s splendid roster so far. Titled “Callin”, the pair have once again successfully demonstrated that they are indeed accomplished at what they do.

The last six months have been eventful and nevertheless, hectic for the deuce. Inaugurating their discography for this year with “Feel So” on Hexagon, they subsequently unveiled “Breaking Down” on Spinnin itself. It is to be noted that both of this singles had a funky electro house touch to it, deviating from their usual melodic sound. But they experimented even further, resulting in “Callin'”. Unfortunately, only a few days ago, Lush & Simon declared officially that they would initiate a hiatus for their act, chalking plans for the future. While we wholeheartedly support their decision, we also sincerely hope to see their return soon.

Now, coming back to the point.

Some listeners have been endearingly referring to this new track as being “Future Progressive“. While this seems quite intriguing, we would resort to saying that it is rather a delectable amalgamation of Electro house and progressive. Utilising sublime synth leads, the first introduction drop plays a swirling melody, somehow similar to contemporary future house. But this unexpected groove certainly adds to nuances, amusing the ears. The breakdown then proceeds with an atmospheric backdrop, introducing a vocal. A gentle beat complements this, slowly escalating towards the riser. With smoothness and precision, the second drop hits with a different enamour. Giving space to the harmonic bassline, this segment of the drop gives a proper dosage of progressive feels. This not only embeds creative variation, but showcases the real potential of it.

With all this said, we can confidently assure that this is a refreshing and efficient production delivered by the duo.
